The main objective for UX Designer is to solve user experience problems with their creativity to make a digital product usable and understandable.

A common misconception in the field of UX Design is that one must have artistic skills. Although art and design have a lot of overlapping qualities, having artistic skills is not a requirement nor essential for this job role. Art is subjective and evokes feelings and emotions. Whereas the creative process of UX design involves gaining insights about their users through research, as well as the process of wireframing and prototyping. Creative thinking is needed to take this research and produce a product that creates a better experience for the user.

Don’t Reinvent the Wheel

UX Designers do not have to think wildly outside of the box or reinvent the wheel. Usually the best option is to create something that users are familiar with. Designers could come up with a new solution for each problem a user is facing. However there are solutions that have already been proven effective. These are called UX design patterns. As Jacob’s Law states “Users spend most of their time on other sites. This means that users prefer your site to work the same way as all the other sites they already know”. Therefore, by creating a product that users are familiar with, they can spend time focusing on the task rather than trying to learn a new model.

Learnt Skill or Talent?

User Experience is not an inherent artistic talent but a skill that can be acquired through time and practice. Aspiring UX designers should priorities four key qualities. Firstly, a strong emphasis should be placed on understanding user-centered design, which puts the user first above all else. Additionally, cultivating empathy is crucial for comprehending the user’s emotions and experiences when interacting with a product. As Don Norman states, “well-designed objects are easy to interpret and understand,” highlighting the importance of designers taking responsibility for user issues. Lastly, employing an iterative design process is essential for continuously enhancing the user experience.

In conclusion, the primary objective of a UX Designer is to create a product that is both user-friendly and profitable for the company. It is important to debunk the misconception that artistic skills are a requirement for this field. Instead, UX Designers rely on research, wireframing, and prototyping to gain insights and develop creative solutions to user problems. They adhere to established systems, guidelines, and patterns that have proven effective to allow a user to navigate familiar interfaces and focus on achieving their goals.
