About Steven
Steven, currently serving as a PMO Analyst at the Cabinet Office of the Government Digital Service, recently completed our Advanced UX Design Course at UX Academy. Explore his experience and discover what it’s like to study with us.
What is your professional background?
I embarked on my digital journey at Sainsbury’s, where I started as a Content Manager producing websites and social media. I then progressed to a Digital Marketing Manager developing brand websites, social and paid channels. Then, I moved to Government Digital Service. Here, I worked on various cross-government projects. Next, I would like to work through end to end on projects within Interaction Design (IxD).
Which parts of the Advanced UX Design Course do you believe specifically filled in gaps in your knowledge?
I’ve done web design project work before, but I needed a refresher to shake out any bad habits I may have formed. I sought the latest practices and techniques to enhance and refine my knowledge. Personally, the rapid ideation and prototyping aspects of the Advanced UX Design Course deepened my understanding.
How was the support from the UX Academy mentor during your studies?
At first, I was not sure how the mentoring sessions would go. Seeing the same mentor week after week was perfect. They journey along with our development and project so we did not have to repeat everything each time. The support was really helpful and challenged our thinking to help move us forward in our project.
Why did you choose to study at UX Academy?
I wanted a course that was set over a number of weeks to allow me time to learn and absorb the information at a time that worked for me. I need a course that offered some class time (online) to meet tutors and classmates, and time between to focus on the homework. Having a project to work on was the clincher. Access to the supportive mentoring sessions to help guide you along was perfect. As courses go, the value was about right for my wallet.
If you are thinking of starting a career in UX/UI design or are just curious to learn more, we have several design courses that may suit your needs.
