About Fiona

I’m a Senior Graphic Designer who has recently started building web experiences in CEROS for my company and I felt that I was missing a link between the design of the screen and how people used a site. So, I decided to take on the UX/UI Design Course to learn a bit about UX design, the fact it was online and in the evening was perfect for me.

Which part of the client project did you find the most interesting?

I found the user interviews to be the most interesting part of the project. I was amazed at how each person approached the simplest task in totally different ways. This experience showed me that you can never take anything for granted.

Which part of the client project did you find the most challenging?

The final formal presentation was the most challenging part of the UX/UI Design Course project for me because it’s not something I typically do. Also, I faced a bit of a challenge in keeping track of the numerous platforms we used for work and communication, such as Slack, Google Chat, MiRO, Figma, WhatsApp, Zoom, Canva, etc.

About StreePin App

StreetPin is an app that helps individuals connect with their local community and find deals and offers nearby. The team’s mission was to improve the homepage to funnel users and retailers to appropriate tasks. They also wanted to facilitate the understanding of local deals and chats so they can display them based on the users’ location

Where did the idea for improvement come from?

Users identified the Home Page as an area of improvement. They found that there was a lot of distracting information displayed at once. This pushed the most important information to the bottom of the page, making it difficult for users to find. The style of images caused confusion for users when they first accessed the page. Users struggled to access and filter information efficiently, as well as to use the map feature effectively.

Home Page Solution & Outcome

We moved general information, that was previously on the homepage, to the dedicated about us page. Therefore, the homepage was redesigned to include only useful links to videos explaining the website’s functionality.

Filtering Content Solution & Outcome

We added search capabilities, including postcode geolocation. Additionally, we added a clearer filtering system to focus on the users’ search goals.

Outcome 2
Map Solution & Outcome

Next, we changed the text and icons in order for users to clearly know the functionality of the map. We moved the map to the side to help users see the location while looking at offers and posts. Then, we reduced the size of the map to create a balance without losing any features.

Outcome 3
Pin, offers and posts solution & outcome

We added a clear heading so users could identify and differentiate between an offer and a post. The background was simplified, and we used a full bleed image to clearly show the subject. Offer cards were given a more distinctive look with solid colours and the option to use illustrations.
