Five-second test of two landing pages
Goal
Learn what a page communicates at first glance, and how to write questions that measure it.
Steps
- Write down, before testing, what you think each page is for and who it is for.
- Open the five-second test and upload the first screenshot. Set a display time of 5 seconds.
- Use or edit the starter questions: what is this page for, what do you remember, who is it for.
- Make a second test for the other page with the same questions. Share both links with other pairs.
- Close both studies. Read the answers and the word list side by side.
- Compare the answers with your prediction. Say which page communicates better and what you would change on the other.
What to hand in
- Links to both results pages.
- Three sentences on what people remembered, and one change you would make to the weaker page.
Questions to discuss
- How closely did what people said match what you predicted?
- What did a screenshot lose compared with the live page?
- Which of your questions gave the most useful answers? Which gave none?
- Five seconds is short. When would you give people longer?
